Safer space guidelines
These guidelines are designed to ensure that everyone feels comfortable and supported at SWAMP. This requires a collective effort, therefore both staff and visitors are expected to follow the guidelines.
SWAMP is a public space dedicated to providing art-related materials. Rooted in values of diversity and non-discrimination, SWAMP offers free materials to all artists, regardless of their background.
At SWAMP, everyone should be treated with equality and respect. We do not tolerate harassment, violence, or inappropriate behavior. This includes all forms of discrimination, such as racism, sexism, ableism, ageism, body shaming, and classism. Discrimination and/or humiliation based on religious or social backgrounds, derogatory language and offensive terminology are also unacceptable.
In the shared space, personal boundaries must be respected. Do not touch others or take photos without consent. Avoid making assumptions about a person’s gender, background, identity, sexual orientation, or health without their voluntary disclosure.
If you witness a violation of these guidelines, please inform a SWAMP staff member. We can all make mistakes however, apologizing, learning, and improving are key to creating a better space. If you disagree with any part of these guidelines, please let us know. We welcome open discussion.
These guidelines are inspired by the work of our esteemed colleagues, including Feminist Culture House, Kultuuri Kaikille, Urban Apa, and Stop Hatred Now, whose contributions we greatly appreciate and support.
